NEW · DESKTOP INSTRUMENT

A theremin
you play with
nothing./

A native macOS instrument that turns your hands — through a webcam — into pitch, volume, and timbre. Built solo in C++ & JUCE. No corporation. No subscription. Just the air between your fingers and the audio thread.

What it/looks like.

A native macOS app, also installable as AU and VST3. The interface is built for stage use — readable at arm's length, no menus to dig through mid-performance.

How you/play.

Two hands. Three gestures. No controllers, no markers, no gloves. Daylight is enough.

A · PITCH

Right hand sweeps

Move horizontally to climb the scale. Up and down slurs the octave. Your hand becomes the antenna.

B · VOLUME

Left hand swells

Lift to grow louder; lower to silence. Close your pinch entirely as a panic mute when something goes sideways.

C · TIMBRE

Pinch bends the effect

Thumb-to-index distance maps to your active effect — reverb tail, delay feedback, vibrato depth — open is max, closed is bypass.

I'm building HAND/WAVE alone — between commissions, late at night, with a black coffee and a cheap second monitor. No team. No investors. No marketing department adding features you didn't ask for.

I make instruments because the ones I want don't exist yet. Every bug report goes to my actual inbox. Every feature gets prioritised by the people testing it. If you write to me, you'll hear back from a person who was probably just compiling something five minutes ago.

Things people/ask.

Why Apple Silicon only?
Because I'm one person, and the M-series CoreML pipeline is what runs hand-tracking inference fast enough for low-latency play. Intel macOS is next, then Windows, then Linux. Vote on the form to push your platform up.
Will it work as a plugin in my DAW?
Yes — AU and VST3 ship today. Tested in Logic Pro 11, Ableton Live 12, REAPER 7, Bitwig 5, and Studio One 7. Pro Tools is on the list once a tester offers to help.
Where does my camera footage go?
Nowhere. All hand tracking and audio synthesis happens locally on your Mac. No frames, no audio, no inputs leave the machine. The app's only network call is an update check, which you can disable.
Will it cost money?
Yes — eventually. A one-time purchase, fair price, no subscription, no online activation. Everyone in the early-access cohort keeps a perpetual non-commercial license (alpha), full stop.
Can I use this on stage?
I hope so.
